Koh Tao is a unique dive location, benefiting from the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Siam – part of the South China Sea, a lengthy February to October season, and over twenty dive sites in close proximity to the island. Here are the highlights:

Chumphon Pinnacle

One of the Gulf’s most spectacular dive sites, located northwest of Koh Tao, the Chumphon Pinnacle is made up of a large granite pinnacle, surrounded by smaller pinnacles, rising from the bed 36m below to within 14m of the surface.
Whale Sharks and their entourage of Cobias and Remoras.

The Chumphon Pinnacle is an essential experience for every diver!

South West Pinnacle

Named for its location south west of Koh Tao, the South West Pinnacle is a prime diving site with depths form 30m. There are seven pinnacles forming an underwater mountain range, and the largest rises to within 5m of the surface. At the upper levels there is a carpet of anemones with whip corals and large sea fans. Barracudas over a metre in length and small Cleaning Wrasses are easily spotted and south east of the main site is a small pinnacle and the home of two Leopard sharks.

Shark Island

Of the dive sites around Koh Tao, Shark Island is the most varied in terms of abundant and fluctuating marine life. For this reason, repeat visits are essential. Approximately 300m southeast of Koh Tao, this granite rock peaks right out of the water from a bed of fine sand at 20 m. At the northern end of the dive site is the highlight, Fish Junction, with some perfect photo opportunities. Visiting reef and leopard sharks are sometimes spotted in the area. Blue Spotted Rays, Scribbled Filefish, Starry Pufferfish, and Titan Triggerfish are al around and very friendly.

White Rock

There’s a substantial coral garden positioned between two granite pinnacles at the northern and southern ends of this site. The marine life is fascinating, and includes both day and night inhabitants. With a depth range of 26 m to 5m and an average depth of 12m, White Rock at Koh Tao is a good beginner dive site.

Trevor the Tigerfish makes this site his home, and White Eye Morays and Blue Spotted Rays are easily seen. Barracudas swim with the divers, using their torch lights to spot prey, and a t night, look out for Feather Stars, Cone Shells, Stingrays, Parrot Fish and Rabbit Fish.

Koh Nangyuan

is a close by island and features plentiful dive sites of its own, including the off shore Green Rock, with its lunar like landscape.
