Chaweng is popular for its crystal clear waters and 6km long powder white sand beach; it is one of the few spots on the island with surf, and the busiest, liveliest, most famous hub of Koh Samui.

Along the beach strip you can choose from a good selection of watersports activities including daily boat trips to the famous marine park, sailing, diving and sea kayaks. A growing trend for jet-skis does spoil Chaweng beach a tad.

Nightlife in Chaweng offers everything from late night shopping to buzzing bars and clubs. Dining is the ultimate; you will not be disappointed. The range of international cuisine is outstanding with Italian, French, Finnish, Irish, Brazilian, Mexican and of course a good choice of tucked away Thai eateries, ice cream parlours and coffee houses. Finally, most hotels offer romantic beach dining at reasonable to high prices.

For up-market dining, visit Betelnut – international cuisine, and Bellini. The Three Monkeys is a great place to relax and play pool, watch sports, and catch some great food. Islander and Tropical Murphy’s are also top places to drink and socialise.

Entertainment venues with Jazz, and Blues bars, live rock band discos, dance clubs, beer gardens and other bars, great cabarets, sing-a-song clubs, karaoke, rock'n'roll bars & clubs, you name it, Samui's got it for you 'till the wee hours of the morning. Open air Green Mango is the most famous and popular club in the area. It even has a street named after it, lined with additional venues that join and come alive during festivals and sporting events. The area also features Samui’s two leading go-go bars, but neither are as obtrusive as those you expect in Bangkok or Pattaya.

The night and daytime street markets will fill your evenings with fun but you can also choose from a good range of air-conditioned up market boutique shops. To ease sore feet there are plenty of clean walk-in massage shops offering a huge variety of treatments at the drop of a hat.

For the more discerning traveller there are a number of spas along the main strip. Most shops are open from 10am till midnight. Chaweng hosts a large number of hotels and boutique spa resorts on the beach front. Private villas and holiday apartments are available throughout a little out of the center for one's tranquility but still a short distance from the beach and activities.

The beach road has recently been restricted to one way traffic, making the atmosphere even friendlier and boosting the location’s reputation as a shopping area. Chaweng Town Centre is currently being developed, a complex of shops and restaurants that will link the beach road to Koh Samui’s social outdoor public centre, Chaweng lake.
