Big Buddha and Bang Rak beach are adjacent and located in the Northeast of Samui with smooth sand, good swimming preferences and safety for children. Big Buddha is Samui’s most popular tourist attraction and place of worship. Bang Rak is the surrounding village and a must visit.
This area is quiet but has everything to offer including international restaurants, bars and shopping opportunities. Most resorts, usually 3 and 4 stars and restaurants enjoy beachside dining. Certainly most of Big Buddha and Bang Rak have remained unfancy and cheap but there are a few high end dining venues.
The waters here are not as crystal clear as the Eastern board but you will enjoy all year round swimming and peace and tranquility as there are no beach vendors operating on this stretch. From here visit the world famous Wat Phra Yai Temple, in other words "The Big Buddha" the aforementioned popular temple. The statue of the Big Buddha measures 12 metres in height and can be seen from several kilometres away. There are plenty of small shops, local craft stalls and restaurants around the temple.
The nightlife in Chaweng is just a 15min drive away but why drive away when most restaurant venues have fantastic views over the Big Buddha and Koh Phangnan?
Bang Rak is also home to one of our favourite sports bars, The Office: big screens, well managed, no pestering from bar girls and all the international sports of the day shown on schedule, a comfortable and lazy way to spend your days.
From Bang Rak daily and regular speedboats services run to the islands and the National Marine Park.
Bang Rak Villas Big Buddha
Most of the private villas in Big Buddha and Bang Rak are on the beach with views to Koh Phangnan island while some holiday apartments are only a few minutes away from the beach. The tranquil waters of the secluded and shielded Bang Rak bay are a vital feature and understandable attraction to family holidaymakers with small children. The Big Buddha and surrounding Buddhist temples and community of giant statues are a sight to behold.
